I have been delivering quite a lot of Job Search Coaching sessions recently ๐
My clients all have similar stories. They are highly skilled, experienced and great candidates but they are not getting any traction in the job market. They have applied for sometimes hundreds ๐คฏ of roles over several months and getting little to no feedback. They feel disheartened and are losing confidence ๐
While there are many reasons this can happen, the biggest issue I am seeing is that job seekers are ONLY applying to advertised roles they see on Seek, LinkedIn, indeed etc While advertised roles should be one way you look for and seek opportunities, it should not be the only way ๐๐ฝ And if it is, you will find it extremely challenging to secure a role and will likely be looking for work for long period of time.
The Australian job market is currently tight and competitive across several industries. We are seeing less jobs advertised ๐ and more applications per role ๐making it an employerโs market. Furthermore, Jobs and Skills Australia recently reported that one third of jobs in Australia are never advertised!
Job seekers will sometimes be going up against hundreds of other candidates per application. Effective personal branding is key, however, MUST also be adopted by job seekers. That means not just waiting for roles to be advertised, but proactively seeking out opportunities ๐
Examples of proactive strategies include leveraging your network and connections ๐ซฑ๐ผโ๐ซฒ๐ผ, directly contacting organisations and key decision makers, partnering with reputable recruiters and having as many informational interviews and career conversations ๐ฃ๏ธas possible.
